About P A C
In the year 1979, a group of keen amateur photographers, initiated a move to form a group in Chinsurah. Though finance was scarce, resources were limited, but enthusiasm and resolve were in abundance. So, the lens men never looked back and the club Photographic Association of Chinsurah came into existence.
On the first anniversary, the club organized the first member’s salon in 1980 to pioneer the interest in the field of photography. A free basic course on photography was introduced in the year 1981. Eminent photographers shared their knowledge with the local enthusiasts.Three successive All India Salons in 1981, 1982 and 1983 followed in quick succession. 1st PAC Biennial, an international salon of pictorial color slides in the year 1984 turned out to be a run-away success. 2nd PAC Biennial followed in the year 1986. After that the PAC experienced a decline in the club activities.
In the year 2001, the members regrouped, a new committee was formed to run the organization under the guidance of one of the founder members, and the fire of enthusiasm so long lying dormant was rekindled. The organization was registered under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act, 1961. Two successful photographic exhibitions were held in the year 2002 and 2003 to boost up the confidence of its members. Silver jubilee celebration began in the year 2004 with PAC All India Salon, with new formats, ideas and interest. Enthusiastic participation by a sizable number of eminent photographers and generous appreciation by the people who matter in the art of Indian Photography convinced members that if with sincerity and dedication they marshal their resources, PAC will definitely take a turn for the better. The club displayed exemplary organizational skill and courage to organize PAC Indian Salons thrice in successions in 2005, 2006 and 2008. We are not only proud of our organizational ability; in the world of amateur photography our members have established their credentials by winning quite a few prestigious awards.
The journey that we have undertaken to nurture and nourish the art of photography in this part of the world has proved to be an arduous one. Our strength and stamina has often been tested. But instead of giving up, we continue to move on with renewed vigour always chalking out new plan to attain greater heights.
